In his oil paintings, Chai draws inspiration from the Bay Area Figurative Movement, the influence of his artistic uncle, Jon Bolles, and many more contemporary artists and styles. Through his brushstrokes, he conveys emotions of loneliness, uncertainty, and displacement, creating pieces that are both deeply personal and universally resonant. His works have been showcased in exhibitions such as Stockley Gardens, juried shows at The Governor's School for the Arts, and his own solo exhibitions, offering a window into his perspective on rural Southeastern Virginia and his life.
